Research in progress

Members of the Maritime Archaeology Unit of Sri Lanka and other institutions and individuals interested in the Avondster Project are investigating and researching many different topics. The following papers are 'work in progress', and should be treated as drafts, but are presented here because they may be of interest to readers.

• Report by the 'European ships in tropical waters' workgroup of the History & Archaeology Department, University of Amsterdam (pdf file), with sections on:
  - The VOC & the intra-Asiatic trade in the 17th century: characteristics of the trade, ship movements, etc
  - Management & organisation: decision-making in a far-flung enterprise with differing perspectives and long communication times
